On Friday, September 16, at 6:00pm, our SJN ACTION Committee will screen the Academy Award-winning movie “Spotlight” in the auditorium. The film is rated “R” and is suggested for adults. There will be brief periods for reflection during and after the movie, and pizza and soft drinks will be available. To register to attend the screening, contact Jessica at sjnaction@gmail.com.
The R-rated movie tells the story of the Boston Globe’s 2003 Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporting into the crisis of sexual abuse in the Archdiocese of Boston. The film was nominated for six Oscars, winning Best Picture and Original Screenplay. Spotlight stars: Rachel McAdams, Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, and Stanley Tucci, among others.
“Spotlight confronts us in a new way with the disastrous consequences of patterns of denial and deception. For Catholic viewers, clerical and lay, it can be seen as a dramatic witness to the profound need to expect and insist on a culture of openness, transparency and accountability. The Church is called to be the light of the world. We must not fear to turn a spotlight on ourselves.” National Catholic Register , November 21, 2015
