Un icono de San José será la pieza central de una muestra de devoción en la Capilla María de la Parroquia de San Juan Neumann, Reston, VA, desde el lunes 19 de septiembre hasta el domingo 26 de septiembre de 2022. El icono también se exhibirá durante la Caballería de Educación Católica (CEK) el 29 de septiembre en el Auditorio Brown-McCarthy a las 7:00pm.

Fluyendo desde el Año de San José declarado por el Papa Francisco en 2021 e inspirado por su carta apostólica “Patris Corde”, el Consejo 7566 de la Familia del Hombre de los Caballeros de Colón está patrocinando la exhibición del icono. Están patrocinando el icono para honrar a San José y rezar por su intercesión para preservar, cultivar y transmitir la fe católica a las generaciones futuras.

El Caballero Supremo Patrick Kelly eligió confiar su servicio como Caballero Supremo a San José y, a través de este Programa del Icono Peregrino, anima a los Caballeros y a sus comunidades a “dirigirse en oración a San José, dar gracias a Dios por el don del ejemplo paternal, y pedir a San José que sea un padre para nosotros” mientras buscamos “crecer en nuestra imitación de la tranquila fuerza, integridad y fidelidad de San José”.

El icono de San José es el último icono que forma parte del Programa de Iconos Peregrinos de los Caballeros de Colón. Cada pocos años, los Caballeros de Colón seleccionan un icono de un santo cuyo patrocinio inspira a los Caballeros y a sus comunidades para presentarlo en el programa. Los iconos viajan de consejo en consejo y sirven como centros de los servicios de oración en las parroquias de toda la Orden.

An icon of St. Joseph will be the centerpiece of a devotional display in the Mary Chapel of St John Neumann Parish, Reston, VA, from Monday, September 19 through Sunday, September 26, 2022. The icon will also be displayed during the Catholic Education Knight (CEK) on September 29 in the Brown-McCarthy Auditorium at 7:00pm.

Flowing from the Year of St. Joseph declared by Pope Francis in 2021 and inspired by his apostolic letter “Patris Corde,” the Family of Man Council 7566 of the Knights of Columbus is sponsoring the display of the icon. They are sponsoring the icon to honor St. Joseph and pray for his intercession in preserving, cultivating, and passing on the Catholic faith to future generations.

Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly chose to entrust his service as Supreme Knight to St. Joseph and, through this Pilgrim Icon Program, encourages Knights and their communities to “turn in prayer to St. Joseph, give thanks to God for the gift of fatherly example, and ask St. Joseph to be a father to us” as we seek to “grow in our imitation of St. Joseph’s quiet strength, integrity, and fidelity.”

In the first year of his pontificate, Pope Francis received the Order’s Board of Directors in a private audience, telling them: “I commend all of you in a special way to the intercession of St. Joseph, the protector of the Holy Family of Nazareth, who is an admirable model of those manly virtues of quiet strength, integrity, and fidelity which the Knights of Columbus are committed to preserving, cultivating and passing on to future generations of Catholic men.”

The St. Joseph icon is the latest icon to be a part of the Knights of Columbus Pilgrim Icon Program. Every few years, the Knights of Columbus selects an icon of a saint whose patronage inspires the Knights and their communities to feature in the program. The icons travel from council to council and serve as the centerpieces for prayer services in parishes throughout the Order.

All community members are encouraged to join the Knights of Columbus to pray for the intercession of St. Joseph in raising, guarding, and preparing future generations.

New Altar Server Training – Starts September 14

If you feel called to serve the Lord and our parish as an Altar Server, training for new servers begins on Wednesday, September 14. The sessions will be held each Wednesday through October 12, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Attendance at all sessions is required. Anyone grade 4 and up is eligible. Formación de nuevos monaguillos – Comienza el 14 de septiembre

November 8th is Election Day! Get Ready to Vote!

Election day is Tuesday, November 8. In Virginia, we will be voting for candidates for the U.S. Congress House of Representatives and, depending on locality, for some local officials and ballot measures. This is the second of a series of bulletin announcements about voting that will run each week until right before the election.

Why Vote?

Our Catholic faith includes a rich tradition of teaching about and working for justice. There are seven themes of Catholic social teaching (https://www.usccb.org/beliefs-and-teachings/what-we-believe/catholic-social-teaching/seven-themes-of-catholic-social-teaching): the life and dignity of each human being; the call to family, community, and participation; rights and responsibilities; option for the poor and vulnerable; the dignity of work and the rights of workers; solidarity; and care for creation. Each of these themes highlights our responsibilities as voters.

The dignity of each human being emphasizes that human life is sacred and that we should always work to protect life everywhere, including in our voting choices. This theme also highlights that systems of government can recognize the dignity of each person by ensuring and protecting every person’s right to vote and participate in the political process.

You can register to vote in person or online. The last day to register to vote is October 17th! You can go to the Virginia Department of Elections website to obtain information about how to register (in person or online) or to download a voter registration application that you can mail in here.

What is your Congressional District for this Election? Has Redistricting Affected You?

Virginia changed its voting districts in the decennial reapportionment and redistricting mandated by the U.S. Constitution (Article I, Section 2). As a result, some parishioners may be in a new Congressional district. Registered voters can look up their Congressional district by visiting this Department of Elections website: Department of Elections website. If you are not yet registered, you can also find out your Congressional district here and here.

El día de las elecciones es el martes 8 de noviembre. On Wednesday, August 31, we held a reception for Douglas Alvarado, honoring his 14 years of service to the SJN community as a member of our facilities staff. Over 50 parishioners attended “Donuts for Douglas” to wish him well as he embarks on his new career. All attendees wished Douglas well as he left SJN for a new position with an outside firm.

El miércoles 31 de agosto, celebramos una recepción para Douglas Alvarado, en honor a sus 14 años de servicio a la comunidad SJN como miembro de nuestro personal de instalaciones. Más de 50 feligreses asistieron a “Donuts para Douglas” para desearle lo mejor al embarcarse en su nueva carrera. Todos los asistentes le desearon lo mejor a Douglas, que deja la SJN para ocupar un nuevo puesto en una empresa externa.

Our Faith Formation Department needs Catechists and volunteers for the Children’s and Middle School (Rooted) Faith Formation programs. There is a great need for a second grade catechist for Sundays at 10:45 am and a Kindergarten catechist for Tuesdays at 5:15 pm. There is also a great need for Small Group Facilitators and people to help behind the scenes with the program. On Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, we hosted receptions to bid a fond farewell to Fr. Michael Vannicola, OSFS. Fr. Michael is leaving us after three years to move to Wilmington, Delaware, to start his new role as Assistant Provincial Superior of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. Over 200 parishioners stopped by and wished Fr. Michael the best in his new role.

El sábado, 13 de agosto, y el domingo, 14 de agosto, organizamos sendas recepciones para despedir con cariño al P. Michael Vannicola, OSFS. El P. Michael nos deja después de tres años para trasladarse a Wilmington, Delaware, para comenzar su nuevo papel como Superior Provincial Asistente de la Provincia de Wilmington-Filadelfia de los Oblatos de San Francisco de Sales. Más de 200 feligreses pasaron por aquí y le desearon al P. Michael lo mejor en su nuevo cargo.

On Thursday, August 11, we resumed our tradition of hosting a reception for new parishioners to SJN. This was our first New Parishioner Welcome Reception since 2019. The evening allowed the newcomers to our parish to meet each other, and to hear from Fr. Joe and from SJN Staff about the many ways they can get involved in parish life and the many services that SJN offers its parishioners.

El jueves 11 de agosto, reanudamos nuestra tradición de ofrecer una recepción para los nuevos feligreses a SJN. Esta fue nuestra primera recepción de bienvenida a los nuevos feligreses desde 2019. La noche permitió a los recién llegados a nuestra parroquia conocerse, y escuchar al P. Joe y al personal de SJN sobre las muchas maneras en que pueden participar en la vida parroquial y los muchos servicios que SJN ofrece a sus feligreses.

On Friday, July 22, our Multi-Lingual Rosary Group celebrated its one-year anniversary. The group meets after the 9:00am Mass to pray the Rosary in English, French, and Spanish.
