Phishing Emails
SJN Parishioners have received e-mails purporting to be from Fr. Joe, one of our other Oblate priests, or SJN Staff. Please note that unless the e-mail domain address is @saintjn.org, it is fraudulent. A fraudulent e-mail will end in @gmail.com, @aol.com, etc. Always double-check the email domain address to determine if it is valid or not—if it is from SJN, it will always have as part of the email address @saintjn.org.“
Additionally, neither our Oblate priests or our staff will ever send you an e-mail requesting you purchase gift cards or asking for staff lists. If you receive an e-mail asking you to purchase gift cards or other products or provide information, it is fraudulent. Please add it to your blocked list through your e-mail provider.

Please Pray for the People of Ukraine – From Pope Francis
Appeal from Pope Francis on Ukraine/Llamamiento del Papa Francisco sobre Ucrania
“My heart aches greatly at the worsening situation in Ukraine. Despite the diplomatic efforts of the last few weeks, increasingly alarming scenarios are opening up. Like me, many people all over the world are feeling anguish and concern. Once again the peace of all is threatened by partisan interests. I would like to appeal to those with political responsibility to examine their consciences seriously before God, who is the God of peace and not of war; who is the Father of all, not just of some, who wants us to be brothers and not enemies. I pray that all the parties involved refrain from any action that would cause even more suffering to the people, destabilising coexistence between nations and bringing international law into disrepute.
And now I would like to appeal to everyone, believers and non-believers alike. Jesus taught us that the diabolical senselessness of violence is answered with God’s weapons, with prayer and fasting. I invite everyone to make next 2 March, Ash Wednesday, a Day of Fasting for Peace. I encourage believers in a special way to dedicate themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war. ” Pope Francis on February 23, 2022
We join with Pope Francis in his call for “those with political responsibility to examine their consciences seriously before God, who is the God of peace and not of war.” I will celebrate a “Mass for Peace and Justice in Ukraine and throughout the World” at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More on Monday, February 28 at 12:05 p.m. All are invited to attend. The Mass will be livestreamed on the diocesan YouTube Channel.
I ask the faithful to join in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in calling for an end to this violent attack. May Our Lord, the Prince of Peace, comfort the hearts of those in harm’s way in Ukraine and inspire those with influence and power to end this attack and restore stability.

Lenten Fasting Guidelines
Good Friday is an obligatory day of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence.
For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal and two smaller meals that are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.

Treatment of the Consecrated Host—An Important Announcement!/Tratamiento de la Hostia Consagrada-¡Un anuncio importante!
We have a very important issue we need to address:
Over the past several weeks, we have found pieces of the consecrated host on the floor after communion. The consecrated host is the real body of Christ, the incarnate Son of God, and is to be treated with the utmost respect. Therefore we need to take this occasion to remind the congregation about the correct way to receive communion.
When the priest, deacon, or Eucharistic minister says “The body of Christ,” you respond, “Amen.”
If you are receiving in your hand, cup your hand, right over left, and the minister will place the host in your hand. Then put the whole host into your mouth to consume it. Do not try to consume it piece by piece.
If you are receiving on the tongue, extend your tongue and receive the host on your tongue. Then bring the host into your mouth to consume it.
If you drop the host, please pick it up and either consume it yourself or give it to the priest or deacon to consume.
Finally, if you notice anyone who is having difficulty following these procedures, please point them out to one of the priests.
Thank you for your cooperation in this very important matter.
No intentes consumirla trozo a trozo.
