Third Annual Virginia March for Life – September 17

Pro Life Ministry invites all parishioners to participate in the Third Annual Virginia March for Life at the State Capitol  in Richmond on Friday, September 17 to affirm the dignity of all human persons and protest Virginia’s extreme abortion legislation. The March begins at 11 A.M.  (See marchforlife.org for details.)  If you are unable to join us in person we ask for your prayers. Pray and work as well to persuade our state legislators, who must stand for election in November, to repeal the horrific abortion laws that violate the most basic of human rights, fall most heavily on communities already suffering from discrimination, and epitomize the throw-away culture that as Christians we must reject.

Parish Wide Bible Study – Angels in the Bible

Parish Wide Bible Study – Angels in the Bible

Join other parishioners this Fall for a 6 -week study on the role of Angels and how they are sent to accomplish God’s will. Using study materials from the premier Catholic Bible study program, Little Rock Scripture Study, we are able to get a fuller understanding of how to bring the joy of the Gospels into our daily lives.

All are welcome to join one of multiple small groups that meet at various times throughout the week.  Registration forms will be on the parish website soon. Alternatively, paper registration forms are available in the office and at the Welcome Desk.

Tuition is $15 and scholarships are available. Registration is open until Monday, September 13.  Contact Janet Broderick at broderickjmb@gmail.com for questions.

Pastoral Plan Survey Results

In March, we asked you to share your opinions about St. John Neumann’s to help us develop objectives that reflect our community as we construct our 2021-2024 Pastoral Plan. We received over 700 responses to the survey, and here are the results from the multiple-choice answers we received. We sincerely thank all who took the time to fill out the survey! Your help has been indispensable to the formulation of our new Pastoral Plan.

Please Pray with Pope Francis for the People of Afghanistan and Haiti

Click here to listen to Pope Francis’ remarks on both Afghanistan and Haiti.

Please join with Pope Francis in prayer for two intentions of critical importance.

Let us pray for the people of Afghanistan at this dark hour, that their hope for better days remains strong and that this burden of oppression will be lifted from them.

Let us also pray with our Blessed Mother for the people of Haiti as they start to recover from Saturday’s devastating earthquake, especially for our Oblates there at St. Francis de Sales Parish and for their parishioners who are currently struggling with the physical damage that the earthquake has caused. Let us also remember Oblate Father Tom Hagan and all those who minister with him at Hands Together. May all of the people of Haiti be blessed.

Volunteer Opportunities at St. John Neumann

Two of our ministries are seek volunteers to help them fulfill their mission to the parish. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of joining these ministries in their service to our community.

Meals Ministry Needs Volunteers
The St. John Neumann Meal Ministry is looking for folks who can help
provide meals for parish families at times of crisis or when in need. This Ministry makes a critical difference to families following a hospital stay or illness. Please prayerfully consider joining the Meals Ministry to make a difference in the lives of others. To learn more about the Ministry, contact Diane F. Trentacoste at 703-868-1380 or dftbiz@gmail.com, or click here.

SJN Dishwashing Ministry Needs Volunteers
The Care for our Common Home Ministry would like to grow the list of volunteers who are on call to help wash dishware at SJN events. When
a person or group schedules an event with food at SJN, we will notify the dishwashing list. Typically, a group of five, including a trained leader, can complete the task in about 1 1/2 hours using the industrial dishwasher in the kitchen. You would only respond to the sign-up request if the time and date
are convenient for you. Please email us at saintjn.cc@gmail.com if you would like to add your name to our list of potential dishwashers. Everything tastes better on china, and reducing plastic and paper waste at the parish is a great way to care for our common home.
